I stuffed my Mum tum into some literal Mum jeans today. I love a tucked in tee so I decided to try to be more accepting of my body and my post pregnancy shape. Like a lot of my mum friends, my body is not what it was pre Baby!
With all the general worries and anxieties that come with having Ted, the cherry on top for me has been the difficulty in dressing my Mum bod. I love clothes so was gutted to find that a lot of my things no longer fit the new me.
I’ve never been a skinny girl (I love a Greggs too much!) but accepting the changes in myself have been hard. The need to eat healthy and exercise has taken a back seat as I try to remember to grab a breakfast bar here or a piece of toast there....babies are demanding and what new mum has time to look after herself? I’ve learnt to snack on things that only require one hand as a necessity. The amount of nutrition I’m currently getting is extremely limited and managing life on very little sleep is challenging at the best of times so fresh food isn’t really high on my list of priorities.
I want our son to grow up with the body confidence that I didn’t have when I was younger, so I’m trying to model this behaviour early on, if not yet for him, for my own self esteem. I think it’s important to show different versions of beauty, that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and Mum shaped has to be the best, right?!
I have to remind myself that my body has grown, birthed and fed an actual human being! So whatever your Mum bod is shaping up to be, know that you are incredible and beautiful, just the way you are. Celebrate your body for what it's achieved and what it may achieve in the future.
I'd love to hear about your experiences! What styles and brands of clothes have you found flattering on your post baby body? Have you changed the type of clothes you wore before getting pregnant?
