My Husband's first Father's Day
Dean and I met in 2014 and I remember telling my girlfriends that I would marry him after our first date (keen, I know). We were living together within 4 weeks and planning our wedding within 6 weeks. It's been a dream.
In 2016, We got married on the 2nd anniversary of our 1st date. We had already started trying for a baby a few months before our wedding, hoping that we could announce that I was pregnant in the Groom's speech. But to no avail.
After several years of hoping, lots of fertility tests and many heartbreaking months, in January 2018 we were approved for IVF. We finally had our chance at becoming a family.
5 weeks before starting our first IVF cycle, we found out that we didn't need it! We had the shock of our lives. That morning is etched into my memories forever. We laughed for half an hour, facetimed my Mum, then I had to go to work.
We paid for an early scan and a gender scan, checking that it was all really happening.
Fast forward to November, where, after 16 [LONG, LONG] hours, Teddy Herbert made his appearance. It was love at first sight. We were thrown into the depths of no sleep, tiny clothes and the trials of breastfeeding.
Through it all, I fell a little bit more in love with my Husband.
Seeing how he cared for Teddy and I, how much love he had for us, changed our already wonderful relationship into a perfect bubble.
The moment Dean became a Father was something I wanted to capture for his first Father's Day.
Greaterskies tag line was perfect for us, 'Some moments are worth preserving', and how true that is. So much emotion and love and longing rolled up into one moment.
A moment that we're reminded of each time we walk in our front door, with the star map now hanging in our hallway.
If you're anything like our family, we mark every celebration with food. Father's Day was no different. Although we had to celebrate a few days early due to Dean's shifts. I cooked one of our family faves, corned beef pie, with a little personalisation!
How hard is it to cut puff pastry without a cutter?!
Then we, obviously, had to finish with cake. We had a little tea party whilst watching a movie. We were gifted a Father's Day letterbox cake from bakerdays who do a huge range of personalised 5 inch cakes that arrive IN THE POST!!
I have to admit, I was a bit worried about the cake being in one piece but it was so well packaged, it looked perfect. We opted for the vanilla sponge, but there are several flavours to choose from. you can also have photos printed on the cakes but we went for a design from the website and added personalised text.
The cake was so delicious and, as a big icing fan, I approve of the amount on the cake. It kept for several days, even after being cut too and came in a reusable tin.
All in all, we had a lovely family day, mainly eating! Can't wait to celebrate everything else this year as a family.
Happy Father's Day to all of the Dad's out there! How many Father's Days have you celebrated? What are your plans? We'd love to hear from you!
